Obama Starts to Save the Planet

In Washington DC, on march 3rd, Persident Obama
put a hold on a regulation that the Bush
administration had put in place. The regulation
limited the scientific reviews of enviornmentally
harmful products and structures. Dams, for
instance, may interfere with the migration
patterns of salmon. There are also persticides
and household cleaning agents that are harmful to
animals once they mix in with rain water. Obama
believes in preserving our planet for our
children, and he expects us to be able to help
both our economy and our ecology. An enviornment
first President is something the world is in dire
need of, so perhaps things will being to look up
for our planet/

Puppy Mills

Summary of news article published in the Seattle
Times: Puppy mills are a sick and hideous tragedy
affecting many a dog right under our noses. Renee
Roske has been running one since 1996, adn the
authorities have given her nothing but warnings
and $50 fines. In Snohmoish County, Roske was
running what officials and nieghbors allege to be
a puppy mill. her parents have been aiding her in
Skagit County, where there are no dog breeding
laws. Puppy mills are operations in which the
owner/breeder puts their own profit before the
welfare of the dog, and the dogs are forced to
live in an extremely inhumane enviornment, How
did Roske get away with this for 13 years? When
her breeding license was revoked, she took the
charges to court and, when everything appeared to
be in line, the license was reinstated.
Personally, I have to wonder if she realized how
utterly wrong her "breeding program" was. And
mroe importantly, if authorities and neightbors
knew, why did no one stop her sooner, before the
lives of innocent dogs were lost?

Black-Footed Ferret Problems

Major problem! In South Dakota, there are these
prarrie dogs. They eat all the grass meant for
these cows farmers are raising. (I may point out
that they are only going to be killed so as to be
made into Big Macs for the center of all evil
that many Americans worship, McDonalds.)So, this
organization(which I think is the US Departmen of
Agriculture, but I'm not 100% sure) might let the
farmers kill all the prarie dogs. These prarrie
dogs are the main source of food for the Black-
Footed Ferret. Those living in that specific area
of SD almost completely died off 25 yrs. ago, and
have slowly made a come back. If the USDA or
whatever lets the farmers do this horrible thing,
all those ferrets will die of starvation. This is
a HUGE problem. The offical article was in the
June 2007 issue of National Geographic Magazine.

Hug a Tree

"Help! Help!" Our planet cries!
Act fast, we really must save her.
However, this is all the fault
Of the hole in the Ozone Layer!

The cars, the smoke;
Cutting down trees!
Would the world just
Consider the consequences, please?!

The Arctic gets
Smaller and smaller each year!
Animals are dying,
It's critical, I fear.

Our planet is dying!
Don't be so calm.
About this I'm quite sure,
I've absolutely no qualm.

Come on, people!
We must all leave.
You knew this would happen,
Don't act so naive

But we are the culprits,
Greenhouse gasses galore
Let's find a new planet
For ours is no more.

And so it shall happen,
Should we continue this way.
Start saving our planet,
Hug a tree today!

Knut the Polar Bear's Fate

BERLIN - Berlin Zoo's abandoned polar bear cub
Knut looks cute, cuddly and has become a front-
page media darling, but an animal rights activist
insists it was wrong to intervene and save the
cub.

"Feeding by hand is not species-appropriate but a
gross violation of animal protection laws,"
animal rights activist Frank Albrecht was quoted
as saying by the mass-circulation Bild daily,
which has featured regular photo spreads tracking
fuzzy Knut's frolicking.

"The zoo must kill the bear."

Pygmy Owl declining

The Pygmy Owl is declining in Mexico, according
to a recent study. On top of that, the small
population numbers in Arizona ae making
scientists think that the Pygmy Owl should have
stayed on the Endangered Species list. The study
showed that 4.4 percent of the population has
declined each year in Sonora. They are suspected
to be dying off due to heavy rainfalls and severe
droughts, which may be linked to global warming,
which remains a great threat as always since a
few years ago.

News: Colored Snow?

Strange multicolored snow fell in three Siberian
regions. Almost as strange, it was not toxic! It
may have been caused by dust and soil blown from
Kazakhstan. The snow fell on Wednesday afternoon
and was yellow, green and orange. When it was
tested, however, it showed to not be harmful. No
health problems were reported due to the colored
snow.

News: Eelpouts and Climate Change

The eelpout species of fish (a large-headed fish)
D is suffering due to lack of oxygen in the
warming temperatures of oceans and seas. The
temperature has risen over 3 degrees during the
past years. Many are dying not only because in
warmer waters the oxygen levels drop, but also
because many fish need more oxygen in warm
waters, thus resulting in the deaths of many of
the species. Yet another example of a global
warming effect on our planet.
